Queenstown Airport Corporation's (QAC) 2017 Master Plan Options document put three options to the community for the airport's future. The airport had 1.89 million passenger movements in FY17 (p9) and demand was forecast at 3.2 million in 2025, 6.0 million in 2035 and 7.1 million in 2045 (p42). QAC said that capping growth at about 5 million movements was more sustainable than the unconstrained 7 million (p15), and the options provided for 3.2 million, 5.1 million and 5.1 million passengers respectively (p26). The May 2018 demand forecast that QAC commissioned from Aviado projects 3,226,762 passenger movements in 2025, 5,120,037 in 2031, 6,040,677 in 2035 and 7,072,281 in 2045, with aircraft movements rising from 25,389 to 55,309. The report says QAC's planning is based on the 2031 forecast (F2 p2, table repeated p28).
