Park and ride in Queenstown: what has been studied
Park and ride has been part of Queenstown transport planning for a decade:
- In 2016 QLDC began initial investigations (QTS-003).
- The 2017 town centre parking business case proposed at least 600 park-and-ride spaces between 2018 and 2026 (QTS-008).
- By 2017 an airport park and ride offered paid parking for 150 vehicles with a free shuttle (QTS-009), supported by a $1.26m council capital contribution (QTS-015).
- In 2020 $1.25m of park-and-ride service funding was carried forward (QTS-043).
- Park and ride remained part of the 2022 Better Ways To Go mode shift plan (QTS-070).
The 2024 Queenstown Public Transport Business Case took a different view. Park and ride is not part of its preferred option (QTS-095), and its advisory papers recommended sites at Speargrass Flat and Cromwell as supplementary add-ons (QTS-093).
This page lists the records that discuss park and ride, so the changing position can be traced in the original documents.
